We analyzed 2,000 tweets from oncologists on Twitter. Here's what we found. 🔍
In part 2 of our Study of Oncologists on Twitter, we look at when oncologists tweet and what they like to tweet about. If you missed part 1, you can read it here.
For original tweets, oncologists prefer mornings
Oncologists most often post original tweets in the mornings. So if you want to catch a tweet as soon as it’s posted, be online early. No sleeping in!
Oncologists prefer to tweet on Fridays
Oncologists tweet most often on Fridays and least often on Mondays
Breast cancer specialists tweeted most often on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays
Thoracic specialists tweeted evenly throughout the week
Gynecologic specialists were an outlier, tweeting exclusively on Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays
Oncologists love to tweet about medical topics
In our study, almost 90% of the tweets were about medical topics. Non-medical tweets only made up 11% of the total tweets, which shows oncologists mostly use Twitter for professional reasons.
More than 50% of tweets were about publications, presentations or meetings. This is likely due to the excitement around new data releases at conferences such as ASCO.
